Sell Inherited Land

With inherited property, the first practical question is who has the legal authority to sell. That may be an executor or personal representative under a will, a trustee, or several heirs who each hold an interest. Sometimes probate is complete; sometimes it has not been opened at all.

We are not attorneys and we do not give legal advice. What we can do is tell you what a title company will typically need to see, so you are not surprised later. If probate is still open or the chain of title has gaps, closing usually takes longer, and it is better to know that at the start.

Every owner of record generally has to agree and sign for a sale to close. If your family is not there yet, it is still fine to start the conversation and gather information.
